Tips for Making DIY Cozy Cottage Fall Garland Decor

  • Accessorize: Add extra seasonal decor like pumpkin garland, berry fall garland, or sunflower garland to make your garland stand out even more.
  • Start with a Quality Garland: Choose a strong artificial fall garland to make sure it lasts and looks real.
  • Soak Your Garland: If you’re using a grapevine base, soak it overnight. This makes it easier to shape around your door frame or fireplace mantle.
  • Use a Glue Gun: Hot glue is great for securing berries, pine cones, and individual leaves to your garland. It helps everything stay in place, even during the cooler fall season.
  • Mix and Match: Combine elements like white sunflower and hydrangea garlands with traditional autumn colors for a more eye-catching display.

How To Make A Cozy Cottage Fall Garland

  1. Soak the Garland: Start by soaking the grapevine garland in warm water overnight. This will help it lay flat and make it easier to work with.
  2. Dry and Lay Flat: The next day, take the garland out of the water, dry it off, and lay it flat. Put something heavy on it every 6 inches to help it keep its shape.
  3. Secure with Wire: Wrap the garland with twine-wrapped wire. This will make it more flexible and easier to bend around your front door or fireplace mantle.
  4. Prepare the Flowers and Leaves: Use wire cutters to cut off individual leaves and flowers, like maple leaves, orange ranunculus, and white sunflowers, from their stems.
  5. Put the Garland Together: Start by placing three peonies in the center of the garland. Then, add eucalyptus, paper flowers, and faux cat tail sprays wherever you like.
  6. Attach the Garland: Use Command light hooks to securely hang the garland in your chosen spot, whether it’s around a door frame, fireplace mantle, or porch railing.

  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: This will help the colors stay bright for next fall.
  • Store in a Cool, Dry Place: Keep your garland in a labeled container in a cool, dry spot to maintain its condition.
  • Wrap in Tissue Paper: For extra protection, wrap the garland in tissue paper before storing.

How To

  • To make a cozy cottage fall garland, start by soaking the grapevine garland in warm water overnight. This helps it to lay straight. The next day, take the garland out of the water, dry it off, and lay it flat on a table. Put something heavy on it every 6 inches to help it stay flat until it’s fully dry.
  • Once it’s dry, wrap the twine-covered wire around the garland. This will make it easier to bend. Next, use a wire cutter to cut off the flower pieces from their main stems.
  • Mark the middle of the garland with clear zip ties and decide where you want the flowers to stop. Cut off any extra garland.
  • Now for the fun part! Start in the center and add three peonies to the garland. Then, add eucalyptus pieces, paper flowers, and faux cat tail sprays wherever you like.
  • Use command hooks to hang the garland on your mantle so it stays in place.
  • You can make this cozy cottage fall garland in less than 45 minutes, and it will make your fireplace look warm and inviting!

Notes

    • Pick leaves and branches that match the colors in your home, or go with classic fall colors like orange, red, and yellow. Don’t be afraid to mix different types of leaves to make your garland more interesting to look at.
    • When using a hot glue gun, use just a little bit so your garland looks nice and neat. You can make your garland special by adding small decorations like tiny pumpkins, pinecones, or acorns.
    • If you want, you can also use different widths of burlap ribbon to make your garland look even better. Take your time to make sure the leaves and ribbon are spaced out evenly.
    • Use twine to tie the garland together for a rustic look. Finally, hang your garland in a place where everyone can see it to make your home feel cozy for fall!
